Pirates of Silicon Valley soundtrack

Last thursday, I watched Pirates of Silicon Valley, a quite interesting film about the beginning of the personal computer age, with the rise and fall of Apple and Microsoft. Of course, the film is situated in the seventies and eighties of the 20th century, so some cool music is featured on the soundtrack. Unfortunately, after an hour search on the internet, I couldn’t find any soundtrack listing of this film. So I decided to make one myself… With the help of the credits of the film and the iTunes Music Store I found all the featured songs of this film. I created my own, very special ‘Pirates of Silicon Valley’ playlist in iTunes, with the following contents:

  1. The Moody Blues - Question
  2. Creedence Clearwater Revival - I Put a Spell on You
  3. The Moody Blues - Isn’t Life Strange
  4. The Guess Who - No Time
  5. Iron Butterfly - In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida
  6. The Police - Synchronicity 1
  7. KC & The Sunshine Band - Get Down Tonight
  8. James Gang - Collage
  9. The Moody Blues - Gemini Dream
  10. Tears for Fears - Everybody Wants to Rule the World
  11. Talking Heads - Burning Down the House

I hope some people find any use of this soundtrack listing, because it is a quite cool collection of songs :)

I found this while googling overheard lyrics in order to match ‘No Time’ to Pirates of Silicon Valley and I think perhaps you should add the first movement of the Bach Double to your soundtrack - the violin concerto to which Jobs trips off his face on acid:) ‘Concerto for two violins in D Minor’, to be precise…

Thanks for compiling this anyway - I’d had trouble placing Synchronicity 1 until I found my answer on here!

Thanks for the listing! I was looking for this soundtrack anywhere but couldn’t find.

That list is great. Many thanks for the violin concerto though Bren. I bought all the CD’s a while ago and made my own Soundtrack CD but moved house a number of times and its all gone. I will do the itunes thing tonight when I get home.

Which one is the piano bit when Jobs invites Gates to the office and accuses him of stealing the code?

You forgot the song played as the Apple folk are entering the Xerox PARC to see their new GUI… and I have been searching like mad for this song.

Yeah, I know not every single song of this film is featured in this list, but I did write down every song that was mentioned in the credits. So an official soundtrack album for this film (if it existed) would probably also only contain the aformentioned songs.

I’d like to search further for the remaining songs, but sadly I do not have this film anymore…

Yeah, I’m surprised the song I mentioned wasn’t in the credits, considering how much of it they used. It had to be about 90 second or so.

On second inquiry, it is on nthere!

It’s Gemini Dream. Go figure; it sounds completely different from anything else The Moody Blues have ever done :-P

Would you mind hosting the playlist on some website like http://www.storeandserve.com , I can’t seem to find these songs. Maybe I’m just not looking in the right places.

I am also interested in the composer and name of the song used during the Steve Jobs yelling at Bill Gates scene, where he yells “your stealing from us” there is classical music playing in the background, I would like to get information on it but have been yet to find any as of yet.

Any ideas of the maker/name of that song in particular?

I’ve one question, maybe little too hard but I’m waiting for your guesses: when Steve is talking to Arlene in Oregons AllOne Commune and he came up with the name Lisa there is a song - do you have any idea who’s the author and title?
